Lifestyle Newborn Session_Baby Yale
Back in February, I had the opportunity to document this sweet family, celebrating the birth of their new baby boy, Yale. Seriously, I love his name so much!!
Although it was my first newborn session of the year, it wasn’t my first time working with the family. I first met Ashley and Byron, and their little girl, Marlowe in 2019 for a Christmas tree farm session. They’re such beautiful people. While I photographed their family, I could easily see the joy and love they share between one another. I loved seeing how Byron played with Marlowe, swinging her, tossing her in the air just to make her laugh. I remembered saying to Ashley, “I could totally see Byron cries the day he walks Marlowe down the aisle”… and we both laughed. You could see it so clearly, the bond and the love they have for each other. It was incredible!. And therefore, I felt very honoured when Ashley asked if I could document their new bundle of joy when he’s here. There’s no way I would miss it, and I was super thankful for the lockdown being lifted, just right in time for our session.
Now, there is something very special when you get to photograph a family year after year. Not only that I get to see my client’s family grows, I also get to see the kids grow as well and even better, bond with them. Marlowe was waiting for me at the door the morning I arrived. She is the sweetest. She took me to her brother’s room, and introduced me to her teddy. She even wanted me to read her a book. It was so so sweet!. Ashley put in so much love and effort in designing and decorating the nursery (and her brand new home). She’s so talented. Everything was so beautiful. Lots of white and wood elements, bright and airy…you know, just my jam. I was pretty excited the entire time I was there lol.
And little Yale. Oh, little Yale. He was so good to us. He did pretty well for his very first portrait session. And by that, I do NOT mean he slept the entire time. There has to be a realistic expectation at a newborn session, which I think is very important. Baby cries. Baby needs to nurse and be comforted. A newborn session could last up to 2 hours depending on how often the baby needs a break and just be with mom. By saying “everything went so well and smooth, it simply means that we were able to capture the moments and shots we intended and no reshoot needed. And I’m just grateful that I got to capture this early newborn days for Ashley and Byron.
I have so many favourites in this session, but my most most favourites are 1) Marlowe kissing Yale (literally the only kiss we got that day lol) and 2) the close-up of Yale’s hands and lip details. Those teeny tiny details cannot be missed. It was a session that made my heart so happy. Newborn session is forever my favourite session to shoot. It’s the most beautiful thing to see how parents fall in love with their baby. It’s also a constant reminder that true love is unconditional.
With love,
Lucy xo.
